Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Caboolture News Article, Wednesday 23rd June 2010 The message on Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s super mining tax arrived on the streets of Caboolture last week with a 40ft campaign bus which stated it took a super bus to fight the super tax. LNP candidate for Longman Wyatt Roy said the Labor MP Jon Sullivan was wrong to be blasé about a significant new tax that did not have the confidence of 70% of voters. My Roy said the poll confirmed that the mining tax was a real issue for the locals in Longman.  “Instead of blaming the media, Mr Sullivan should be listening to the voice of the locals,” he said. “Longman residents realise that this is not just a tax on mining.  It will increase the operating costs of local business, the cost of living and threaten the super funds of workers and retirees and push up the cost of building materials. “Every time you fuel up in Caboolture … Continue reading

The Federal Member for Longman has been caught out – out of touch with strong local opposition to the Rudd Government’s Mining Tax. The results of Newspoll’s survey show that 44% of Longman voters believe the Mining Tax will be bad for the economy. Only 30% believe it will have a positive impact.  LNP candidate for Longman, Wyatt Roy says the Labor MP is wrong to be blasé about a significant new tax that does not have the confidence of 70% of voters. “Questioned about his voters’ rejection of the mining tax on ABC Radio, the Labor Member for Longman blamed the media,” Mr Roy said today.  Speaking on Radio National, Jon Sullivan said “I think because, um, we are getting some really bad press and, ah, I don’t think, ah to be honest, Fran that the media is giving us a fair go but, ah, that’s not something that the media likes to hear much.”  Mr Roy says the … Continue reading

Practical action for the future – not a big tax

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Wyatt Roy and the Liberal Natonal Party stand for real action to tackle the complex challenges of climate change, energy security and water scarcity. We will not allow Mr Rudd to impose a big tax on everything that won’t bring down emissions but will increase family taxes and cost jobs.  Emissions Reduction Fund To facilitate direct action, a Liberal National Government will establish an Emissions Reduction Fund to support CO2 emissions reduction activity by business and industry. Through the Fund, we will support 140 million tonnes of abatement per annum by 2020 to meet our 5 per cent target. This is a once in a century replenishment of our soil carbon. Through the Fund we will also make incentives available for the oldest and most inefficient power stations to reduce their emissions in an orderly manner which protects jobs, electricity prices and energy security. ‘Clean Energy Hubs’ will also be established in the LaTrobe, Hunter and Central Queensland regions. The Emissions Reduction Fund … Continue reading
