Forum Resolves Environment Minister needs to review Pumicestone Passage

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

A forum on the Sunshine Coast last night resolved that development on the Pumicestone Passage should not go ahead until the Federal Environment Minister had assessed the environmental impact on the Pumicestone Passage. Wyatt Roy, Federal Member for Longman, said that it was essential that the environmental impact under the RAMSAR Convention and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act be assessed. “At my request last week Shadow Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt and local MPs inspected the Pumicestone Passage. “We want to ensure that the fragile ecological balance of the Pumicestone Passage is not disturbed by any development on the Passage. “We want to see appropriate sustainable development, subject to the right checks and balances. “This is the same process we saw win Traveston, when a brutish Labor government tried to avoid environmental concerns,” said Mr Roy. After inspecting the Passage, Mr Hunt said he and the Federal Opposition were well aware of the impending danger to Pumicestone Passage. … Continue reading

Wyatt speaking in Parliament about Caboolture Hospital and Bribie Island Bridge

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Transcript of Wyatt speaking in Parliament I want to take this opportunity to inform the Committee about two examples – two of many – in the electorate of Longman where local infrastructure has been overlooked by the State Government of Queensland. The first relates to the Caboolture Hospital. During the election campaign the critical situation facing local hospital services in Caboolture was probably the local issue most often raised with me.  The adequacy of local health services is the most important issue in Longman – without question.  It is raised with me on a daily basis by locals, whether they are people using the hospital or doctors and nurses working there. The lack of provision for rehabilitation, the constant requirements of ambulances to ramp at the local hospital, and the lack of beds and essential services. In addition to the chronic health conditions I have mentioned, mental health needs are simply not being addressed.  The Coalition had a well supported … Continue reading

Inaction on Bribie Bridge not good enough

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Federal Member for Longman, Wyatt Roy, is calling for the State Government to “pick up its act” and conduct forward planning for a second bridge to Bribie Island. Although the Bribie Island Bridge is the responsibility of the Queensland State Government, Wyatt Roy has been working toward seeing a resolution of this issue. “The Bribie Island Bridge is a State Government responsibility, but the State Labor Government is neglecting the residents of Bribie Island by failing to build a second bridge to the Island,” said Wyatt Roy. Wyatt is demanding information and action from the ineffective State Labor Government, which has no plans to build a second bridge to the Island. “Labor debt, waste and mismanagement have resulted in a situation where State Labor Government is unable to build the most basic of infrastructure,” said Wyatt Roy. “As the Federal Member for Longman, I am very concerned that there has been no forward planning by this State Labor Government.  I … Continue reading

Wyatt Roy delivers $12M black spot upgrade for D’Aguilar Highway

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

LNP candidate for Longman Wyatt Roy and Shadow Attorney General, Senator George Brandis have announced a $12 million package of funding to fix the most dangerous traffic black spots on the D’Aguilar Highway. “The alarm has been ringing for years over accidents and near misses on the D’Aguilar Highway, but there is just no response from Labor,” Mr Roy said today. “I’m proud to welcome this announcement from the Liberal National team, but disappointed on behalf of locals who have been kept waiting too long by Labor.” Senator Brandis said the Coalition leadership had listened and responded to local concerns. “This is a state highway, but Labor inaction on traffic black spots is a national shame,” he said. Mr Roy and Senator Brandis inspected one of the black spots – at the Gamgee Road intersection west of Wamuran – this morning. They said the $12million allocation would pay for urgent work to upgrade six of the worst traffic dangers on … Continue reading

Roy ready to be youngest MP – Sunshine Coast Daily

Monday, May 31st, 2010

John Hammond | 28th March 2010 WYATT Roy is prepared to face his date with destiny as the federal LNP candidate for the seat of Longman, knowing he must convince the electorate to take a leap of faith and put their future in his energetic young hands. If things go as he plans and he wins the seat at the upcoming federal election, 19-year-old Mr Roy will become the youngest MP in the history of Australian politics. Mr Roy said, through his teenage years, he had been turned off by politics because of the mud-slinging and spin which passed for parliamentary debate but came to realise it was the arena where you could make the biggest difference. “I bring a fresh, clean and energised commitment to politics,” he said. “I have strong convictions and ideals and I know I can do the job – to get out there and listen and be the voice for my constituents – in parliament, … Continue reading

Towards a Productive and Sustainable Population Growth Path for Australia

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

The Australian population is growing at the rate of one additional person every seventy seconds. At an annual population growth rate of 2.1 % per year, Australia is one of the fastest growing developed countries in the world today.  Two thirds of our current population growth is accounted for by net overseas migration, which has increased by more than 40%, on average, under the Rudd Government, compared to the latter years of the former Coalition government.  Australians are already feeling growing pains from current population pressures. Congestion in our cities, limitations on our energy supply, threats to food security, erosion of service standards in our hospitals and marginalisation of water resources are all evidence of the challenges created by population growth. In October last year the Prime Minister dismissed these challenges and recklessly committed Australia to his idea of a Big Australia and later endorsed the 36 million population projections contained in the third intergenerational report.  The majority of Australians … Continue reading

Fighting for less talk more action

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

The Liberal National Party believe infrastructure is about getting things done, not just talking about it. While Labor fails to meet its promises on transport, broadband and other key investments in the future, we will continue to fight for less talk and more action.
