Adjournment Debate Speech about D’Aguilar Highway and Bribie Island Bridge

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

28 February 2011 | E&EO I would like to use this opportunity to draw attention to major infrastructure concerns in my electorate of Longman. For a long time now, the D’Aguilar Highway running through the middle of my electorate from the Bruce Highway towards the west, has been claiming the lives of those who use it. The most recent tragedy occurred on 24 January when another life was tragically lost on the highway. LNP candidate for Longman Wyatt Roy and Shadow Attorney General, Senator George Brandis have announced a $12 million package of funding to fix the most dangerous traffic black spots on the D’Aguilar Highway. “The alarm has been ringing for years over accidents and near misses on the D’Aguilar Highway, but there is just no response from Labor,” Mr Roy said today. “I’m proud to welcome this announcement from the Liberal National team, but disappointed on behalf of locals who have been kept waiting too long by Labor.” Senator Brandis said the Coalition leadership had listened and responded to local concerns. “This is a state highway, but Labor inaction on traffic black spots is a national shame,” he said. Mr Roy and Senator Brandis inspected one of the black spots – at the Gamgee Road intersection west of Wamuran – this morning. They said the $12million allocation would pay for urgent work to upgrade six of the worst traffic dangers on … Continue reading
